Getting Started
What to Expect
From your first inquiry to ongoing sessions — here's how the process works.
Step 1: Free 15-Minute Phone Consultation
There is no charge for the initial call. It exists for one purpose: to help you and Suzanne determine whether counseling is the right fit for your situation.
In this call:
- You describe your situation briefly — as much or as little as you are comfortable sharing
- Suzanne (or her office) clarifies which services might be most helpful
- Your questions about the process are answered
- A first session is scheduled if it is a good fit
If counseling is not the right next step, Suzanne will say so — and may suggest alternatives. There is no pressure and no commitment.
To schedule: Call 253-495-5493 or send a message through the contact form.
Step 2: Your First Session (60 Minutes)
The first session is longer than ongoing sessions — 60 minutes, set aside specifically for understanding your situation. Suzanne will not rush to a treatment plan. This session is about listening.
By the end of the first session, you will have:
- A clear sense of whether the work is a good fit
- Suzanne's initial perspective on your situation
- A shared understanding of what ongoing sessions would look like
Sessions are available in person (Tacoma, WA) and via secure Zoom video.
Step 3: Ongoing Sessions (50 Minutes)
Ongoing sessions are 50 minutes. Frequency depends on your situation and goals — weekly, biweekly, or as needed. Progress is reviewed at regular intervals, and the pace adjusts as the work progresses.
Suzanne’s approach is structured and practical. Sessions have direction. You will know what you are working toward, and you will be able to see progress over time.
In-Person or Zoom — Your Choice
Both options are available throughout Washington State. In-person sessions are held in Tacoma, WA. Zoom sessions use a secure video platform — a session link is provided before each appointment.
Many clients choose Zoom for flexibility, particularly when co-parenting schedules and custody logistics make in-person appointments difficult to plan. The work is the same. The setting is your choice.
